Children’s Books by Julia Cline
Bubble!
The poem, Bubble!, floats along, following bubbles where they travel during their glistening, though short, existences. The illustrations show most of the world from the point of view of bubbles, looking down upon the earth and its curious inhabitants.
Kotobuki
Kotobuki is a tiny kitten who gets into everything! His family saves him from mishaps and rescues their possessions from his playful curiosity. He exhausts them—but despite the havoc he causes, they believe he is “just perfect.”
Come Walk with me
Come Walk With Me is the distillation of a myriad of hikes. If you have ever paused to watch a lizard sunning on a rock, you will be drawn to the content of this book. The vocabulary will be challenging for toddlers, but the pictures and the rhythm of the poem will carry them along the trail with their older siblings. The illustrations are full of things to discover, so be prepared for questions!
Where is portulacca sleeping?
Told only through pictures, Where Is Portulacca Sleeping? shows a kitten seeking the attention of an annoyed older cat. The napping spots chosen by the older cat, as well as her reactions to the meddling kitten will spur much lively discussion between those who share the book. The resolution at the end is satisfying for both the observers and the cats.
the year Jesus was twins
illustrated by Hildy Charboneau
Zach Clark and his younger sister Alyson wait for Christmas while wise men—the figurines from their mother’s creche collection— travel all over their home in search of the baby Jesus. Kittens, Flop and Plop, make the wise men’s search even more arduous by absconding with one infant Jesuses and sending him flying all over the house. Several creche crises occur, and Zach learns that waiting for Christmas may be as important as the holiday itself.
